The Erskine falls drop 30 metres in to the fern-lined valley of the Erskine River. Located nine kilometres from Lorne, and signposted from Mountjoy Parade, there is only a short walk to what is one of the most beautiful falls in the Otways.
The pretty Erskine River, at the foot of the falls, is flanked by ancient ferns, shrubs and native trees, continually moist from the fine mist of water dancing over the rock face.
It has inspired thousands of of bush lovers over the decades. Even the poet and novelist Rudyard Kipling wrote of buying a frond of fern “gathered where the Erskine leaps down the road to Lorne”.
